By the way, Geneva and Ashley’s work is amazing!!  They don’t get nearly enough exposure.  The show will mostly be happening just for the one night, with maybe a few straggler paintings up for the week, depending on wall space.

My Girlfriend Geneva chose the topic transformation for our drawing collective, and I had coincidentally just finished this painting.  Man I was mad at this image, it was a stupid ugly gold headed bird, so I sanded its head with fierce vengeance.  I am much happier with it now.

I have been struggling a bit in the art department the last couple of weeks.  Lots to do and little motivation.  Ideas, but no gusto.  I think this is cause I have been working full time as apposed to my usual part time half days.

I think I will be adding a photo element to my blog.  I have been taking my camera with me on my bike ride to work everyday, and I think it could be good to post a daily photo journal… we’ll see.

Maybe this afternoon.

Hmmm, this painting, still not sure about it.  But I know there are a few people out there who like it, a lot.  So I am putting it up to the test.

What was I thinking… about love, about how I should stop thinking about love (all the Xs), maybe I was bloated that day, don’t know.  The bear started out just as some paint roller or brush marks that looked vaguely like a bear.  I stretched out his arms and legs and so on.

I gave it to my friend Kezia a while back as a gift.  She’s got a whole collection of my stuff now.

Here it is!  My first drawing for the purpose of a t-shirt, and the one chosen in the end!  Mostly I was just drawing off the top of my head, but I was also thinking of those burnt out looking pine beetle trees.  It’s a sad situation, but I am hopeful nature will bounce back in full force.  The Raven is saying something… translate as you wish :)

I rarely draw on white paper these days.  A white canvas, or leaf of paper stares me down, blank and cold.  The toughest part is the first mark…

Someone asked for a t-shirt design and I wanted to try something new, not square form.  So I started from the middle and worked my way out.  Not sure if a t-shirt will evolve, but no matter.  I also worked this one into the drawing club collective them of the week: Tickled Pink.

By the way, the Derby Poster got the go ahead, and should start appearing around town this week!

For our drawing club collective the theme was narrative, so I wanted make a picture that told a story… I started with the 2 bears having a conversation, then literally worked outward from them to develop the plot.  I’d be interested in anyone’s interpretation of what’s going on here?  It’d be good to see if anyone is watching and reading :)

Grace’s holy bunny for her birthday a year ago, finally got a good picture of it.  She’s in New York, playing sex in the city with her girlfriends… can’t wait to hear stories when she’s back.

Gotta make more of these with different animals to celebrate all them forest creatures!

Kezia’s bunny.  She has these beautiful Jesus and Mary prints she found in the wall of a place she lived in… they inspired this idea.  I plan to paint more animal icons, but so far the bunnies are making great mother Marys.  Like anybunny is a virgin, really ;)

It’s wacky, it’s fun, it’s ROLLER DERBY!!

The Original painting is for sale at For Sale at “Love’s” 535 Yates Street.

Anne Froh asked me to design a poster for their next bout, and of course I was thrilled!!  Their team/league name is Eves of Destruction, hence the tree and apples which play on the theme of Adam and Eve.

I hope this is an eye catching poster to round up some new people to come watch and support our local derby.  I went for the first time last year, and it was more fun than I ever imagined.  Cute, hard-hitting, fast skating chicks rolling their asses off in fishnets and booty shorts.  Yes please, beers and great merchandise too.

The photo I used is by Jules Doyle.  I sure hope he doesn’t mind me using it.

Happy Birthday Jason Brown…

I gave this to Jason last year in August for his birthday.  He is my coworker and confident.  I found out today he is leaving… WhAAAAAAA!

Sniff, sniff.  Well, I wish him all the luck in the world.  Another reason to go traveling east I guess.

The insides of my (Adam’s) bird houses…

The box on the right has some fly fishing lures I got from Kezia.  The one on the left features some little pigs Regan gave me.  They’re drinking game pigs.

I would have a hard time explaining the psychology in these, so I am not going to bother here.  But I hope visually they are interesting enough without an explanation.

The second box.  They open in different directions because I was thinking it would be like wings.

We have them hanging in our sun room.  I kinda want to varnish them and hang them outside in hopes birds will make homes out of them.  Adam voted against that, and I gave them to him, so he wins.

There’s a lot going on here.

I am from Vancouver Island, but I took a 1 year hiatus to go to Montreal.  It’s something I’d always wanted to do, travel by train across the country and learn some French.  Live and eat hot bagels and poutine in Montreal.  I lived in a tiny town called Villebois first for a couple of months, then went south to Montreal.

I wrote a lot of letters on Maps, mostly to this guy I had hopelessly fallen for back in BC.  I went back to the Island briefly for a close friend’s wedding and made copies of some of the letters I had made him.

Then there was a show in Montreal!  “In Search of the Simorgh,” a bird themed group show.  I made 2 Bird houses that opened using the letters while drawing and painting into them.  I sent them to that commitment resistant man back on the island in a package full of cool, awesome stuff.  Shortly after, something transformed in him and he asked me to come home.

And here we are!  Living happily ever after!

The boxes have some weird stuff going on inside.  I will post more pics later.

Octopus are amazing contortionists.

Contortionists was the theme for Drawing Club, and this is what I came up with.  It’s a little painting, and in a different style from my other work on this site, but I have more like this to come.  The boots are gold leaf.  I love shoes and boots, just so you know.

I work from photos and slides, but I also work from my crazy little brain… it’s fun.  Got to keep practicing, drawing, exploring… and I should be doing that now!  So no more procrastinating, I have lots to do for Thursday.  GOT to get off the ‘puter!
