Leslie Wiegand was born in a barn filled with feral kittens, and grew up wild, gentle and friendly on an island Song Farm at the end of a road shaped like a crooked finger. She spent her formative 80’s communing with forest elves and being chased by bees. While black nighttime fields and other life forms incited terror and imagination, earthly connections with plants, animals and family are the force and inspiration behind her work.
Inspired by random snapshots and misshapen fairytale narratives, she interprets the world in a way that is distinctly her own; a curious top layer with mischief loaded into the undertow.
A 2003 graduate of the Fine Art Honours program at the University of Victoria, she currently resides in town but escapes to the forest whenever she can. Bunny rabbits get very restless.
